Description

September 30th is Orange Shirt Day - an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day that honors the children who survived residential schools and remembers those who did not make it home. This day relates to the experience of Phyllis Webstad, a Northern Secwepemc from the Stswecem'c Xgat'tem First Nation. On her first day of school, she arrived dressed in a new orange shirt which was taken from her. It is now a symbol of the stripping away of culture, language, freedom, and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations.

On September 30, we encourage all people to wear orange to raise awareness of the very tragic legacy of residential schools and to honor the Survivors.

Portion of proceeds from each sale will be donated back to Cultural events and programs within our Tuscarora community.

Design by Murisa Printup from the Tuscarora Turtle clan and granddaughter of residential school survivors.

100% cotton. Classic fit. Orange shade and fabric blend may change based on availability.
