Description
Orange Shirt Day is a poignant event observed annually on September 30 to honor and remember the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada. This commemoration stems from the story of Phyllis Webstad (Northern Secwpemc (Shuswap) from the Stswecem’c Xgat’tem First Nation (Canoe Creek Indian Band)), who had her brand new orange shirt taken away from her on her first day at a residential school. The day serves as an enduring reminder of the loss of cultural identity and the hardships faced by the Indigenous people during that era. By participating or acknowledging Orange Shirt Day, individuals stand in solidarity, recognizing the grave injustices faced and emphasizing the importance of reconciliation, understanding, and hope for future generations.
Our Every Child Matters keychain is not just a piece of accessory, but a token of remembrance, respect, and a pledge for a better future. Carry it with pride, share its story, and be a part of the change.
All proceeds from the sale of this item go to programs held on the Tuscarora Nation that help to fortify our culture.
Measures approximately 2.4" X 2.7" and is made from durable aluminum. Comes with a 1" split-ring keyring. The image is on both the front and the back.
