Description
Our clan shields can be seen hanging from the review mirror of many Rez cars! Each ornament is hand-torched for contrast and then sanded and stained to bring out the wood grain. Available in all nine (9) clans of the Haudenosaunee. Our ornaments are strung with Natural Polished Hemp String. Hemp is one of the traditional materials used by the Skarù:réʔ (Tuscarora) People.
This item was given the name "Clan Shield" by Mohawk Elder Tom Porter who, when purchasing these for his Craft Store, asked what they are called? "Good question!" was the response. Tom said, "Let's call them 'Clan Shields'" and ever since then that's what we've called them!
