Did You Know?

The Turtle is considered one of the 11 Most Endangered Places in America in 2025 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.  For more information, please go here: https://savingplaces.org/11most.

Help to Reawaken the Turtle—by purchasing a Friends of the Niagara Turtle T-shirt—designed and produced by Haudenosaunee artists. The funds raised from T-shirt sales will be used for several immediate needs:

  • Filing fees to make the Friends of the Niagara Turtle an official non-profit organization
  • Pay for digital copies of the original drawings by the architect of the Turtle, Dennis Sun Rhodes
  • Purchase supplies needed to raise support and awareness

The Turtle once served as the Native American Center for the Living Arts. For 30 years, it has sat, abandoned and deteriorating. Help to Reawaken the Turtle, and return it to a vibrant place for Native American arts, culture and heritage for the next six generations.

About the Shirt
The Shirt contains the Friends of the Niagara  Turtle Logo on the front (which highlights the gorgeous Thunderbird windows seen on the top of the Turtle Building Shell. It also utilizes the font used in the old Turtle Quarterly Magazines that were published when the Turtle was open). On the back, you will see a full color rendition of the Turtle Head and the phrase "Reawaken the Turtle". And now, on the sleeve, you will see the National Trust for Historic Preservation Logo showing the Turtle Building to be one of the 11 most endangered historic places in the United States in 2025.
